2019-02-11 February EC Email Promo Image - GiphyHello! My name is Alena and I am your Students’ Association’s Director of Cultural and Community Affairs, a part of the Executive Committee (EC). Now that the semester is back in full swing, let me share some new and important information.

As you have probably noticed we now officially attend the Alberta University of the Arts (AUArts)! Along with the change, ACADSA has a new name as well, chosen by the Provincial Government. We are now the Alberta University of the Arts Students’ Association (AUArts SA).

Our usernames across social media have changed to @auarts.sa for Facebook and Instagram and @auarts_sa for twitter. We are in the process of moving our website over to www.auarts-sa.ca. After careful consideration, we have decided to use just our logo leaf and an interim wordmark while we evaluate our brand and logo with the student body to ensure it is in sync with who we are and where we are going. We know that designing and changing a logo is a process that involves many steps, many people and takes some time, so it will be a gradual change-over. We will be involving the student body to finalize our a new logo for the new academic year (2019/2020). If you would like to be more involved with this process, please reach out to your SLC representatives (www.acadsa.ca/about/leadership-council/) to find out about their meetings.

Although Midterms are still a whole month away, it’s never too early to start thinking about your grades and making sure you’re on track. Especially if you are in the latter half of your degree, make sure to be booking time to visit the academic counselor located in AUArts’ registrar’s office.

February is also the time of year where it is important to be taking time for yourself and scheduling breaks. This time of year can be very stressful for students so sometimes it’s important to take a step back. I’ve included some very helpful resources in Calgary that are accessible to every individual. Remember, if you are struggling please don’t be afraid to reach out because no problem is too small or unimportant to be seeking help.

This semester has its upsides though! The technicians have been working very hard towards increasing their knowledge about sexual violence. With the new policy in place, the initiative was taken to further their knowledge by taking a free course offered through Calgary Communities Against Sexual Abuse. They now have some basic training on responding to disclosures of sexual violence.

Our team at AUArts SA has also been working away at a new sexual violence awareness campaign. A new section has launched on our website designated for statistics about sexual violence as well as a list of resources that are accessible and safe spaces for anyone, include communities such as LGBTQ2+. It can be found at www.acadsa.ca/sexual-violence-awareness
